Tamara Osso

Performance and Visual Artist

I am interested in the connections between the immediacy of performance and the physicality of painting in a South African context.  The impact of technology on space and time is endlessly fascinating and I enjoy how moments of interaction can be suspended/extended/revisited/. Personal, physical intimacy is valuable.

Artist

Artist vs Artist - performance on paint

Tamara Osso worked as a professional dancer before pursuing a career in Fine Art as a visual artist. She danced with numerous companies, most notably; Free flight Contemporary Dance Company, Ballet Theatre Afrikan, Janice Honeyman, La Rosa Spanish Dance Company and The Really Useful Group. In 2006 she enrolled in a BA Fine Art degree and completed her honours degree in 2009. She completed her MA degree (with distinction) at WITS University 2014. Her work and research involves grappling with the connection between the immediacy of performance and the physicality of painting in a South African context. Concerned with the impact of technology on space and time, her work seeks to suspend moments of interaction which attempt to retain a sense of personal, physical intimacy.
